“I try to carry books with me wherever I go. Their weight has become like ballast against the churning sea of modern life, where so many real things are vanishing, and so many beautiful things are being made invisible …”
Celebrated in more than 100 countries, World Book Day is, you guessed it, a worldwide event devoted to our universal love of authors, books, illustrators, and reading. Across the globe, World Book Day occurs on April 23, which just happens to be the day historians believe Shakespeare was born (coincidentally, it was also the date of his death). The purpose of the holiday is to encourage young people to read and help provide them the means to do so.
